Four cells from two axes. Label the axes before you fill names.

A game with a stop time

Icebreaker games, games for an ice breaker, and meeting icebreaker activities fail when they have no end. Pick one, say the time, and stop. The five below are for people who will work together after the opener. They are not party games. A classroom can use the same list. The 6 C's page is about longer learning design. This page is about the first minutes.

Five you can run

One-word check-in. Each person says one word about their morning. No explanations. Group of 4 to 12. Four minutes. The facilitator writes nothing down.

Spectrum. Name two poles, such as 'I want to decide today' and 'I want to gather facts today'. People place a dot or stand along the line. Group of 6 to 20. Six minutes. Read the clumps aloud and move on.

Object constraint. Each person names an object they can see and one constraint it suggests for today's work. A clock suggests a stop time. A closed door suggests a guest who is not here. Group of 5 to 15. Eight minutes.

Common-ground pairs. In pairs, find one work fact you share that is not the employer or the school. Ninety seconds, then one pair reports. Group of 6 to 16. Seven minutes.

Two truths and a task. Each person offers two facts about their week and one task they hope the meeting will finish. The group does not guess. The task is the point. Group of 4 to 10. One minute each.

Questions

What are icebreaker games for a meeting?
Short, timed activities that let people speak once before the work starts. A good one ends in under ten minutes and produces a fact the meeting can use.
What is a meeting ice breaker activity that stays professional?
A one-word check-in or a spectrum line between two work poles. Both avoid personal disclosure and have an obvious stop.
How many icebreakers should one meeting include?
One. A second game spends the time you needed for the decision.
